What Is Email Voting?
With Email Voting, NemoVote offers one of the easiest ways to take part in an online election: via Magic Link directly from your inbox.
Instead of entering a username and password, one click is all it takes to land straight on your personal ballot. Especially useful for longer elections or audiences with limited tech experience.
How Magic Links Work
Magic Links are secure, personal URLs linked to a voter account. A single click logs the voter in and brings them to the right ballot – no credentials needed.
Voter Experience
There are three common ways to use Magic Links:
-
Pre-Vote Login
Perfect for live elections with multiple ballots. Voters log in early from their inbox and wait in NemoVote for the next vote to start. -
Direct Link to Active Vote
Ideal for multi-day elections: The link goes straight to the ballot. One click – vote submitted. -
Self-Service Option for Voters
If voters have already been added to the system, they can request a Magic Link themselves. Instead of logging in manually, they just go to the platform and ask for the link.
Admin Settings
Magic Links can be configured in the Authentication Settings panel:
- Enable/disable Magic Links
- Set link validity (e.g. 5 minutes, 24 hours, or up to 1 year)
- Allow single-use or multiple-use links
- Optionally switch to classic login (username + password)
This lets you combine the convenience of Magic Links with your desired security level.
Security and Forwarding
Magic Links are tied to a voter account – but in theory, they can be forwarded. Just like traditional login credentials, anyone with the link can access the associated ballot.
For extra security, NemoVote also offers SSO (Single Sign-On) via existing association or company logins.
Big plus: Once logged in, voters stay logged in – no need to use the Magic Link again for future votes. Upcoming elections simply appear in the platform.
