Default Vote Behavior
By default, once a vote opens in NemoVote, voting rights become fixed. A snapshot of eligible voters and their rights is created and stored immutably in the database.
This ensures vote integrity but limits flexibility for evolving voter eligibility during long-running elections.
Dynamic Voting Rights Feature
NemoVote offers a powerful feature to enable live voting rights synchronization even for already-open votes.
Key benefits:
- Changes to voter lists are immediately applied to ongoing votes
- Perfect for non-live votes spanning multiple days
- Handles late voter eligibility decisions dynamically
Activate this in vote settings when changes to voter groups are expected during the voting period.
Real-World Use Cases
Scenario 1: Extended voting periods
Your vote runs for 7 days, but final voter eligibility isn't confirmed until day 3. Add/remove voters seamlessly without restarting.
Scenario 2: Proxy voting adjustments
Learn how to Setup Proxy Voting
New proxy authorizations arrive mid-vote. Update voter lists and rights instantly: Delete voters that are now not eligible to vote anymore (but check, whether they have cast a ballot already before) and set the proxy up.
Paper ballot analogy:
- Adding voter B = Handing out additional ballot papers
- Removing voter A = Retracting uncast ballot papers
How Changes Are Applied
When activated:
- Add voter B to eligible list → B immediately gains voting rights
- Remove voter A (unvoted) → A loses voting rights instantly
- Results tables and roll calls update automatically
Immutable protection:
- Cast votes cannot be altered or removed
- Maintains election integrity and audit trail
Admin overview updates to reflect current eligible voters who haven't voted yet.
Email Notifications
Fixed voting rights (default):
Opening vote triggers warning: "Voting rights locked." Optionally email notification are sent to all voters.
Dynamic voting rights:
- If email notifications are enabled, initial voters get standard notification
- Newly added voters receive automatic emails
- Removed voters get no further notifications

Important Warnings
✅ Safe: Already-cast votes remain protected regardless of list changes
✅ Auditable: All changes logged with timestamps
✅ Transparent: Admin dashboard shows real-time eligibility
